Who we are

At Tech Access Group (TAG), we're on a mission to bridge the digital divide and create a more inclusive, connected world. Founded by a passionate team of community-focused professionals, we specialize in expanding digital equity by providing access to essential internet devices and offering digital literacy training. Through partnerships with nonprofits and local organizations, we work to ensure that marginalized communities and individuals have the tools and skills needed to thrive in the digital age.

Our commitment goes beyond technology; we're dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging and opportunity in every community we serve. Whether it's through refurbishing e-waste laptops for families in need, conducting free workshops to enhance digital skills, or helping you refine your own digital equity movement, TAG is here to support and empower you. Join us in building a digitally inclusive future!

What’s the problem?

Each year, Americans produce approximately 6.9 million tons of e-waste. Only 12.75% of that is formally recycled, leaving 6.4 million tons of discarded electronic devices heading towards landfills; that’s 40 million devices like desktop computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, cables, monitors, and more. Despite this level of e-waste, nearly 4.4 million Americans say they are unable to afford access to the internet, due to the costs of either broadband connection or devices, with 1.4 million of those lacking BOTH! (based on data provided by U.S. Census Bureau)

There are a few government entities attempting to help address this issue by providing grant funding to state and local community organizations, but the funding is slow and highly selective, often going to the organizations that need it the least, or planning to use it to help fund other agendas.

Other government organizations like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) admit that even they are having trouble managing the levels of general waste produced by the public, as seen in the article pictured above.

So how can we make a change?

As a community, we have the power to make the positive improvements to the current system. Looking at the issues, we have determined that the solution actually lies in the problem itself. There are plenty of devices being thrown away every day which we could use to provide a sustainable supply of devices for those who would otherwise lack the access to get them, either because of price, location, or understanding. Because of not only our experience, but also our network of tech-based organizations specializing in digital up-skilling and education, we can provide the skills and knowledge necessary to utilize the devices we provide. This model addresses and promotes improvement of the issues at hand in three simple steps:

Step 1: Diverting e-waste
Partnering with community organizations and businesses, we can access and reclaim e-waste before it becomes a problem. These entities include moving and waste-removal companies, schools, real estate companies, and distribution warehouses.

Step 2: Refurbish devices for re-distribution
Refurbish e-waste devices for resale to eCommerce websites, on-site retail sale, and for donation to low-income families, students, and community-focused organizations.

Step 3: Digital Literacy and Workforce Development
In addition to providing hands-on experience helping with device refurbishing, we offer courses ranging from basic digital literacy to coding and up-skilling for upward mobility at work.
